Real Madrid and Chelsea march on

Real Madrid are through to the last four of the Champions League, but only just. Reus scored twice as Borussia Dortmund won 2-0 on the night but it wasn’t quite enough to overcome the three goal deficit from the first leg.

Real were overwhelming favourites to go through and should have sealed things early on when they were awarded a penalty, but Di Maria’s attempt was saved. Borussia Dortmund then took control of the match and an underwhelming Real just had to hang on. Which they did.

In the second match, Chelsea faced the daunting task of overcoming a 1-3 first leg deficit. On as an early substitute after Eden Hazard picked up an injury, Schurrle found the net and it was game on. Until the goal, PSG looked comfortable and composed, but that all changed as Chelsea went in search of a second.

Three minutes from the end of normal time, Demba Ba scrambled the ball over the line to make it 2-2 and they held on, despite a frantic finale, to go through by virtue of their away goal in the first leg.
