An off-duty policeman was on-hand to arrest a 41-year-old foreign national who was allegedly responsible for a number of robberies with violence against elderly people in Estación de Cártama.
The individual had just hit an elderly woman in the chest and snatched a gold chain from her neck and had brandished a knife to threaten someone who tried to come to her assistance.
The alleged attacker took flight and was pursued by by the officer and several other individuals. He threw a rock at the officer, striking him on the knee, and then threatened him with a pair of scissors. However, several other officers arrived on the scene and they managed to subdue him. It later transpired that there had been several other similar robberies in the area earlier in the day.
Due to the violence involved in the robberies, the individual was remanded in custody.
