The town of Arenas del Rey in Granada province was the epicentre of an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, the tremor also being felt in parts of Málaga and Jaén.
The quake occurred at 20:30 on Wednesday and calls were received by residents in Bailén, Almuñecar, Vélez Málaga and Molvízar.
There are no reports of damage to property and no-one was injured during the tremor.
