The UPA, the Union of Small Farmers, gave away two tons of potatoes outside the doors of a hypermarket in Pulianas, Granada, in a protest against the way large retailers are taking advantage of the Russian ban on food imports from the EU.
The farmers say that the large retailers are using the current situation to reduce the price paid at source for various products, despite laws being in place to address the problems of price imbalances in the food chain.
The farmers add that the consumer is not even benefiting from the lower prices being paid to farmers.
