Police in Girona have arrested a 55-year-old Gambian national on suspicion of murdering his partner, also a Gambian national.
The incident occurred in a block of flats in Sant Pere Pescador. It is alleged that the man stabbed and killed his partner and also stabbed a relative who was in the home at the time.
The couple have three children, one of whom, aged one year, was in the apartment at the time of the stabbing. The other two were at school.
According to neighbours, there were frequent arguments in the house and complaints of violence had been lodged by the woman. A neighbour reportedly rescued and hid the alleged killer until the police arrived as the residents of the block were apparently intent on lynching him.
