Ex-wife of alleged killer had requested a protection order but this had been denied

The man who committed suicide after allegedly killing his young daughters in San Juan de la Arena had reportedly been denounced by his ex-wife for psychological abuse and she had requested protective measures, but the request was apparently denied at the time.

At around 18:00 on Thursday, J.I.B.A., threw himself off the La Concha de Artedo viaduct. After police identified the man, they went to his home in San Juan de la Arena where they found the lifeless bodies of his two daughters, aged 7 and 9 years.

The man was separated from his wife but had visitation rights. According to reports, the man was due to deliver the girls to their mother, who lives in Soto del Barco, that same day.

The girls usually lived with their mother who had recently separated from her husband. It is reported that in 2013, the mother made a complaint of psychological abuse which ended up being considered a case of harassment and a request for a protection order was made. However, the request was reportedly denied.
