Thirteen arrested in gold racket

National Police in Málaga have detained thirteen people aged between 19 and 55 years on suspicion of the crimes of forgery, receiving stolen goods and being members of a criminal organisation in relation to the sale of gold.

The police investigation began a year ago after officers spotted a suspicious transaction being carried out in a jewellers shop.

Research suggests that the organisation acquired many gold items from minors, paying them a low amount for the goods. Police seized 500 pieces of jewellery, some the proceeds of burglaries, and about seven kilos of undocumented gold.

Police have managed to trace the owners of some of the jewellery. The organisation operated in Churriana, Cártama, Antequera and Torre del Mar.
