Two dead after drug-laden helicopter crashes

The two occupants of a helicopter, which was carrying around one ton of hashish, died in the early hours of Tuesday morning when the craft hit an electricity pylon in Cortes de la Frontera.

An unauthorised flight had been detected and a Guardia Civil helicopter was sent to investigate. The Guardia Civil helicopter began to follow the suspect craft but suddenly lost sight of it and had to call off the pursuit.

However, a dawn search of the area of the last known sighting resulted in the discovery of debris, the bodies of the occupants of the helicopter and packs of hashish.

An electricity pylon in the area was damaged, leading to the hypothesis that the helicopter hit the pylon as it tried to escape its pursuers and crashed. Around 30 packs of hashish weighing around one ton were recovered from the scene.
