Council opposes staff reduction for the Andalucia Orienta Programme

The Local Government Group intends to urge the Junta de Andalucia not to reduce the staffing levels of the Andalucia Orienta programme in Nerja, requesting the same staffing for 2014-15 as during 2013-14.

Andalucia Orienta is a programme designed to provide assistance of various kinds to those looking for employment, a sort of careers advice centre. The staffing level in 2013-14 was four technical staff and one administrator. For 2014-15, it is apparently three technical staff and one administrator.

According to the Council, the Programme offered assistance to 660 people during 2014, with 53% being under the age of 30 years. The Junta de Andalucia took the decision to paralyse the service in September 2014.

Nerja has an official overall unemployment rate of 34.2%, with youth unemployment being 59%. These are some of the highest figures in the country.
