Three years after the works were completed, the Nerja botanical garden opens its doors to the public.

The Regional Government of Andalusia, through European funds, has invested more than 2.6 million euros in the botanical garden. This botanical garden joins 12 others that are integrated into the Andalusian Network of Botanical Gardens and Natural Spaces, a unique network throughout Europe whose main objective is to conserve, preserve and encourage the spread of native Andalusian flora. There are 26,000 square meters of gardens divided into 4 zones – traditional crops, vegetation linked to the climate, and vegetation linked to special soils and collections.

There is also a classroom for environmental workshops and a central lake. The grounds are crossed by a footbridge that connects the town of Maro with Nerja Cave to allow pedestrian access to the garden.

The opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and admission is free.

Having walked through the area in January of this year I was impressed with the layout but the numerous processionary caterpillar nests were disturbing.Children and dogs will be encouraged to use the area.Overseas visitors are not always aware of these caterpillars.Good luck in your venture and will explore on my next visit
