Anabel Iranzo elected new IU coordinator

Twenty-nine year old Councillor Anabel Iranzo has been unanimously elected as local coordinator for the Nerja IU party. The new local committee is completed by former Councillor Rafael Vázquez as secretary and current Councillor Jorge Bravo as head of communications.

Council reminds IU of municipal ordinances

Fuengirola Council has reminded the IU party that it is illegal to distribute leaflets in the town under  Article 101 of the Municipal Ordinance relating to public roads.

Almogia Councillor arrested on drugs charges

Police have arrested Diego Aranda, an IU Councillor in Almogia, on suspicion of crimes against the public health after one hundred marijuana plants were found in one of the properties he owned in calle Marcelo San Esteban.

IU suspends three members in Colmenar

The provincial executive of Izquierda Unida has suspended the membership of three councillors in Colmenar for agreeing a pact with the PP and Convergencia Andalucía parties which allowed Antonio Jesús Fernández, PP, to become mayor of the town.

IU threatens action against two councillors in Almonte

The leadership of the Málaga provincial IU has announced that it will open proceedings against two councillors in Almonte, Huelva, if, at a plenary session scheduled for June 11th, they agree to support the PP in government.

New IU mayoral candidate for Nerja

Telesforo Romero Villasclaras, a teacher at the Joaquin Herrera school, will be the mayoral candidate for the IU at the next municipal elections in May 2011.

IU critical of parking policy

The IU has criticised the decision by the ruling PP (several months ago) to order the owners of plots of land in the centre of town to erect walls around these plots to prevent them being used as free parking. These plots were used as free parking areas for many, many years without problem.
