This is a reminder that the last day for payment of the taxes IBI (rates), Basura (rubbish collection) and Car Entrance Tax is September 12th 2014.

Tobacco and alcohol taxes to go up on Sunday

The special tax increase on alcohol and tobacco comes into force on Sunday, with the price of cigarettes expected to rise on average by €0.15 per packet. Rolling tobacco is likely to rise by even more.

Tax increases on alcohol and tobacco

The Council of Ministers is expected to approve a special tax increase on alcohol and tobacco during today’s meeting as well as outline spending limits for 2014, support and encourage entrepreneurship, approve electronic invoicing and provide yet more funds for local authorities to pay outstanding debts to suppliers.

Council approves the shelving of a new PGOU

As expected, the majority PP government passed the motion to suspend the production of a new PGOU, something the Council believes will save them €400,000. The motion to freeze rates for 2013 and increase taxes based on the Consumer Price Index was also approved. This will mean a rise of 1.9%.

Municipal taxes in Rincón de la Victoria frozen for 2013

Rincón de la Victoria Council has announced a freeze on municipal taxes, including rates (IBI), for 2013, maintaining them at the same rate as this year. The only exception relates to the charge for water as this must be updated each year based upon the CPI – Consumer Price Index. This will result in an 8.5% increase in water rates.

Vélez-Málaga Council considering new taxes to boost revenue

Dwindling revenue from construction projects, the primary source of income for many municipalities and motivation for much unnecessary building, is forcing Councils to seek other sources of revenue, even including inventing new taxes. Such is the case in Vélez-Málaga.

Glad to see we have the top brains on the job. According to the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, the prolonged recession is due to a continued decline in consumer spending and construction. Price hikes in all sectors, increased direct and indirect taxes (VAT, IBI, airport taxes etc), increased unemployment, wage reductions – way to go to encourage consumer spending. …
