Out and About July 6th 2014…

Today started off with a light wind, then it calmed down before become very strong and blustery. The red flags were fluttering on the beaches for most of the day, even though at times the sea was relatively calm.

Out and about October 20th 2013…

The glorious weather continues and for the time of year there are still a lot of people milling around town. Quite a sprawling wedding celebration on the Balcón de Europa on Sunday with guests spread out from the Balcón viewpoint to the Town Hall. Would that be a wedding ‘botellón’?

Still lively…

Still a lot of people milling around, particularly in the evenings, and quite a few on the various beaches. There was a large crowd outside the church this evening. Could have been a choir as there was someone who seemed to be conducting them from atop a stepladder. Or he could have been the entertainment.

Groom mows down guests

As is not uncommon in Turkey, the groom at a wedding in the village of Akcagoze decided to fire a volley of shots into the air to celebrate his nuptials. Unfortunately for his guests, he lost control of his AK-47 and ended up killing his father and two of his aunts. He also managed to wound another eight people. He …

The other day was the first time I’d seen anyone sitting, hand out, at the entrance to the church on the Balcón de Europa. What made it stand out was the fact that there was a wedding about to take place, so hope it didn’t mar the event for the happy couple. The two women positioned themselves on either side …
