ETA ARRESTS IN FRANCE

The French police have arrested three alleged ETA members, two of them part of the ‘Comando Ellura’ which was involved in the December 2006 bomb attack on Barajas airport in which two Ecuadorians, Carlos Alonso Palate and Diego Armando Estacio, lost their lives.

The three detentions were carried out as part of an investigation by the French authorities into ETA financing.

Joseba Iturbide and Mikel San Sebastián, although members of the ‘Comando Ellura’, were not accredited with participation in the Madrid bombing and were released from police custody in January 2007. They had been detained in a Guardia Civil raid in Mondragón, Guipúzcoa, on January 6th along with Igor Portu and Mattin Sarasola, two ETA members who were apparently directly involved with the airport bombing.

The third man arrested yesterday is Martínez Mur, a life-long ETA veteran.
