PUBLIC DOMAIN BOUNDARY REVISIONS BETWEEN ALGORROBO AND NERJA

The Department of Coasts has initiated a process to revise the boundaries of the ‘public domain’ of sea and land between Algorrobo and Nerja.

This sort of exercise has not been carried out in this area since the 1960’s but has been carried out along the rest of the coast.

The project, which will take about two years to complete, covers six stretches of coastline in Algorrobo, Torrox and Nerja. The expropriation of lands and even the demolition of some structures in Nerja is not out of the question. Landowners have been summoned to various meetings on the matter to be held on April 23rd, 24th and 25th.

The general picture is the adding of a five or ten metre strip of land to the ‘public domain’. More specifically:

Algorrobo: Includes most of the promenade between urbanisation Pueblo Nuevo and calle Velero.

Torrox: Includes a stretch from the Guerrico stream to calle Axarquia, from the soccer field in El Morche to the start of Torrox itself and the first 200 metres between Torrox and Peñoncillo beach.

Nerja: Includes a stretch between Torrox and the start of Torrecilla beach, another stretch between Torrecilla and Burriana beach and a final stretch between Burriana beach and the border with Granada province at Maro.

One would assume that this will see the end of any remaining beach chiringuitos, fishermen’s cottages etc, something the authorities have been trying to figure out a way of accomplishing for many years now.
