The leader of the opposition PSOE in Nerja, Angél Ramírez, has accused the mayor, José Alberto Armijo, of operating ‘dual standards’ when it comes to building projects.
Ramírez points out that, whilst the Council insists on permission from the Department of Culture for the construction of the new pedestrian bridge connecting Maro to the Nerja Caves on the grounds that it takes place on protected land, no such permission was considered necessary, or sought, for two Council projects on houses in Maro which are also on protected land.
Furthermore, he adds, the Council has authorised the use of two plots of land at El Playazo beach for the parking of motor homes, installing sanitation and a kiosk at the site. This land, says Ramírez, is agricultural land and, as such, is also protected and the works that have been carried out are ‘illegal’.
