VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA COUNCIL AGREES COMPENSATION

Vélez-Málaga Council has paid out compensation relating to an incident in Torre del Mar in April 2003 when a wall at the football field collapsed and left one person dead and another seriously injured.

Two women were crushed when a twenty-five metre stretch of wall collapsed at the municipal football stadium. One, a 50 year old, died in the incident, the other spent several days in hospital and now has a permanent disability.

Meteorological reports at the time predicted the possibility of a tornado and high winds at the stadium ripped several metal advertising hoardings for their supports and these eventually caused the wall to collapse.

After an agreement was reached between the Council and the lawyer for the injured woman, compensation in the amount of €27,564.53. Of this, €20, 232 relates to the injuries and disability suffered by the survivor and €7,332.53 relates to the death of her sentimental partner. The Mapfre insurance company has already paid out over €80,000 relating to the case.
