Unease in Alhaurín de la Torre

Residents in Alhaurín de la Torre, alarmed by the continuing spate of robberies in the area, have decided to take security matters into their own hands and have organised neighbourhood patrols to try and deter would-be thieves.

Around 60 residents in the outlying urbanisations of Tabico Alto, Casas Blancas, Vaguada de la Sierra and others on the road into the town from Churriana have been patrolling the streets in an attempt try and calm the general feeling of insecurity and unease in the area. The organisers say there have been at least a dozen robberies in the past couple of months with four break-ins taking place in the same street within the past month. Many residents have expressed discontentment with the leadership of the Guardia Civil and Local Police due to the weakness of regular surveillance in the area.

The Town Hall state that there have only been seven robberies in the past four months and believe the alarm being created within the community is ‘unjustified’. They also point to the fact that, just twenty days ago, a group of Eastern European individuals were detained in connection with a number of robberies in the municipality and want to send a message of reassurance to the public.
