Sevilla hopes of a Champions League football next season were not helped by a 4-1 loss to Almería yesterday.

Sevilla started well but Daniel Alves suddenly put the visitors ahead by heading into his own net as he tried to clear a corner. There were then goals from Negredo, Ortiz and then Negredo once again before Kanouté pulled one back for the home side with fifteen minutes left to play. The match also saw temperamental striker Adriano sent off for remarks made to the referee which, presumably, were not compliments on his handling of the situation at the time.

Barcelona could only draw 0-0 at home to local rivals Espanyol and they remain eight points behind leaders Real Madrid who take on Racing later today.

Fourth placed Atlético Madrid also lost, 1-3 to Real Betis who now move up to ninth place in La Liga.
