Tragic fire in Écija kills six people

Six people, five of them from the same family, have died in a fire in Écija, Sevilla.

Tragedy struck in early this morning as fire totally destroyed a house in Écija, killing all the occupants. Those who died are thought to be 58 year old Antonio Romero, his wife Dolores Priego, their three children, 25 year old Jesús, 18 year old Maria del Carmen and 16 year old José Maria. The sixth victim is believed to be the boyfriend of the daughter although at this moment neither his name nor age is known.

The identities of the victims will be confirmed after DNA tests have been carried out as the bodies were totally charred. The initial identification has been as a result of a list of people registered as living at the house. It is also known that the 18 year old girl was pregnant.

The fire, which started at 07:30, is thought to have been started by a heater or fire left on overnight. Despite the severity of the blaze which totally destroyed the two-floor house, the buildings on either side were undamaged. All the victims were upstairs when the fire started.
