San Isidro in Nerja

San Isidro, NerjaAround 10,000 people participated in the Romería de San Isidro in Nerja yesterday.

The festival in honour of San Isidro, patron saint of farmers, is one of the most popular local celebrations in Nerja and around 10,000 made the trip from the El Salvador church on the Balcón de Europa to the Nerja Caves.

The procession was led by around 100 horsemen and they were followed by 17 ox carts, horse-drawn carriages, countless motorised floats and, of course, thousands of pilgrims on foot. This year was a lot cooler than usual, a bonus for those making the long journey on foot. The procession took several hours to reach its destination with various refreshment stops along the way.
