Plans to try and raise financing to complete home for the elderly

Efforts are now being made to raise the financing necessary to complete the Good Samaritans residential home in urbanisation Almijara, Nerja.

The project began in 1989 on land ceded by the Council who also provided an annual grant of €60,000. In addition, grants were also supplied by the Nerja Caves Foundation, €54,000 per year, and the Ministry of Social Affairs, €50,000 per year. Local residents have also been providing a further €40,000 per year.

All this, however, did not stop the project grinding to a halt and efforts are now being made to raise the necessary €1.8 million to complete the building, a 4,400 square metre home for 64 elderly residents. An association has been formed by local people to try and raise the money and a painting by Erik El Belga is to be autioned via the internet and the proceeds will be donated to the project.
