A new on-street parking system is likely in Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar shortly whereby vehicle owners will be charged to park their cars.
The new system, known as the Blue Zone, has been approved, although it still needs to go before the full Council in plenary session and be published in the Official Provincial Gazette before it can be implemented.
In addition, several factors still have to be decided, including which streets will be involved in the system and who will control the parking, the Council or an administrative company.
The Blue Zone system, which has been in the planning stages for ten years, will relate to a specified number of streets within the commercial centre and will only actually apply on days when there is commercial activity and when commercial premises are open for business.
The basic minimum charge will be €0.30 for thirty minutes and €0.60 for one hour.
