San Fermin – 1 dead and over 100 injured

The San Fermin festival is underway in Pamplona but, even before the traditional bull running, the casualty list was one dead and more than 100 injured.

The San Fermin festival is a nine day celebration renowned for the bull running and round-the-clock drinking, but there were casualties right from the start.

One man, an Irish national, was found dead on Sunday after apparently falling from a thirty metre high wall. He has been identified as 23 year old Aidan Holly, who only arrived in Spain on Saturday. There was some delay in identifying him as the only documentation about his person was a banker’s card issued in Ireland. He was eventually identified following assistance from Europol.

The remaining casualties were, in the main, suffering from excessive alcohol consumption or cuts and bruises due to over exhuberance.
