Manilva tops the list

The Economic Yearbook of Spain 2008, published by the Caixa bank, shows that Manilva has almost doubled its population in the past five years.

The population of Maniliva has grown from 6,270 inhabitants in 2002 to 12,249 in the year 2007, an increase of 95.5%.

Most towns in Málaga province have seen increases in population during the period, some quite substantial, but there are eight which have actually declined. Top of the list is Ardales, down 8.1%, followed by Cuevas del Becerro, down 6%, and Cañete la Real, down 4.9%.

Largest population increases between 2002 and 2007:

Manilva: + 95,5%.

Benahavís: + 47,5%.

La Viñuela: + 46,9%.

Alcaucín: + 46,8%.

Benalmádena: + 45,3%.

Rincón de la Victoria: + 39%.

Mijas: + 35,1%.

Casares: + 34,8%.

Alhaurín de la Torre: + 34,1%.

Mollina: + 32,1%.

The eight who have seen a decrease in population between 2002 and 2007:

Ardales: – 8,1%.

Cuevas del Becerro: – 6%.

Cañete la Real: – 4,9%.

Alfarnate: – 4,5%.

Teba: – 2,7%.

El Burgo: – 2,7%.

Cuevas Bajas: – 0,3%.

Alozaina: – 0,1%.

In Mijas, 40% of the population is now foreign. In Fuengirola the figure is 31% and in Torremolinos it is 25%.
