Visible parts of ‘New Flame’ being removed

The company Titan Salvage has been busy removing the chimney and other visible parts of the stricken cargo vessel ‘New Flame’ which went down in the Bay of Algeciras last August.

The ‘New Flame’ ran aground after colliding with the tanker ‘Torm Gertrud’ on August 12th 2007 and thwe wreck has been responsible for several oil spills which have affected the coastline around Algeciras.

The ‘New Flame’ lies in an area of the Bay of Algeciras controlled by Gibralatar, and the past year has seen much rhetoric between the Spanish and Gibraltarian authorities as well as numerous complaints from environmental groups.

The chimney is the only remaining part of the boat still visible, but not for much longer. The engine room was removed last week.
