The bodies of an Ecuadorian couple have been found at their home in Ontinyent, Valencia. It is thought that the man killed his wife and then committed suicide.
The couple, who ran a bar in the town, had been together for ten years and lived in Camino de la Pólvora with their eight year old son. Both also had children from previous marriages.
There was apparently no history of abuse or violence. The incident happened at around 18:30 yesterday. The son was playing in the street with other children when the sound of six gunshots shots was heard. The Local Police were first on the scene before the investigation was taken over by the Guardia Civil.
A day of mourning was declared in Ontinyent and flags were flown at half-mast throughout the day.
A bizarre tail to this case. The Ecuadorian couple had been running their bar for ten years, since December 1998 in fact. The previous owners, Spanish, were also involved in a case of domestic violence. The man stabbed his wife and then also committed suicide.
