More GB golds

OlympicsThe GB gold rush continues in Beijing, it’s now 16 golds and 33 medals in total.

Christine Ohuruogu captured 400m gold for Britain, crossing the line in 49.62 seconds to to beat Jamaica’s Shericka Williams and American title favourite Sanya Richards.

Ohuruogu, who last summer completed a one-year ban for missing three out-of-competition drugs tests, added the Olympic crown to the 2007 world title. The win makes Ohuruogu the first British female Olympic 400m champion.

Cyclist Chris Hoy clinched a hat-trick of gold medals as he beat team-mate Jason Kenny in the sprint. The 32 year old becomes the first Briton in 100 years to win three golds at the same Olympics, his earlier successes being in the team sprint and keirin

Swimmer Henry Taylor was the other Briton to win three golds in London in 1908.

Victoria Pendleton won Britain’s sixth track cycling gold of the 2008 Olympics with victory over Australia’s Anna Meares in the women’s sprint final.

The 27 year old won the first two races of the best of three series with relative ease.

China’s Guo Shuang beat Netherlands’ Willy Kanis to take bronze.

In sailing, Paul Goodison collected gold in the Laser class.

Goodison, who was fourth in 2004, led going into the medal race and held on to top spot by finishing ahead of his nearest rival, Sweden’s Rasmus Myrgren.

Slovenia’s Vasilij Zbogar took silver with Italy’s Diego Romero taking bronze.
