Court rejects Market Traders appeal

The judge at the Administrative Court in Málaga has rejected the latest appeal by the Market Traders Association (AVAM) against the proposed move to the site in Almijara. The traders were also demanding the suspension of the Council decision to transfer the market.

The Court found no evidence that the new site was either too small or lacked the necessary safety and security elements.

The market traders plan to hold a protest demonstration today, starting on the Balcón de Europa at 11:00 and continuing outside the Council offices. The Market Traders Association have obtained permission to hold such demonstrations each Tuesday throughout the month of September.

The Council has once again approached the owner of the calle Carabeo/los Huertos land regarding using the plot as a temporary home for the market and expects a definitive answer this week. The owner of the land behind the Mercadona supermarket has already firmly rejected the idea of allowing the land to be used for the market.
