Nerja market is set to reopen following its closure for an extended period following the lockdown caused by the Coronavirus Outbreak.

The market continues to provoke debate, with no-one so far coming out in favour of the new site in Almijara except for the politicians, and they probably don’t frequent it, and it seems pretty evident from the comments here and on other sites that the whole business is having quite a negative impact on people’s perception of the town.

Still no market

Two weeks have now passed since the Council threatened to revoke the licences of the market traders if they didn’t set up their stalls withing three consecutive weeks and still no sign of any activity in Almijara.

Nerja market set to return shortly

Nerja should have its regular weekly market back in operation very shortly. It won’t be this coming Tuesday, more likely the week after, but it is set to happen after 33 weeks of protests and demonstrations.

Market protest moves to Málaga

It is now 31 weeks without a regular market in Nerja and the protests continued yesterday, although not in the town itself. The Market Traders took their cause to Málaga, assembling outside the Provincial Council offices in avenida de los Guindos.
