Three Colombians sentenced to prison for a crime against the public health

Three Colombians have each been sentenced to 9 years in prison and fined €1 million for a crime against public health, namely cocaine trafficking.

The detentions took place in July 2006 when a car with two occupants was stopped at a checkpoint near Estepona. Inside the car police found one kilo of cocaine.

A search was also carried out at house in Marbella where a Colombian couple were living and police found three kilos of cocaine, precision scales and €13,550 in cash, all hidden behind a light fitting. The cocaine, the investigation concluded, came from the two men who had been detained at the police checkpoint.

Two of the defendants admitted to the offence in court, the third didn’t. The woman at the house where the cocaine was found was not charged as the court decided that the only incriminating evidence against her was the fact that she lived in the house where here partner was dealing drugs.

The almost 4 kilos of cocaine seized by the police would have had a street value of around €273,436.00.
