A total of twenty companies in Nerja have obtained the Cerificate of Distinction in the ‘Sistema Integral de Calidad Turística de España en Destino, (SICTED)’, a system sponsored by the Federation of Spanish Provinces and Municipalities.
Businesses attain the certificate after introducing a manual of best practices into their business and then, at a later stage, having been successfully examined by an external auditor.
The twenty businesses are:

As one can see, the list does not only include business but also public services, such as the Police and the Tourist Office! And a couple of beaches thrown in for good measure!
The ultimate goal, apparently, is to have virtually all business, services etc with some sort of ‘tourist quality’ certificate, be it ‘Q’, ‘SICTED’, a ‘Blue Flag’ or whatever, in order to better attract visitors to the municipality. To this end, services like the Local Police and Tourist office are being encouraged to participate, improving the quality of service and customer satisfaction.
