The socialist mayor of Vélez-Málaga, María Salomé Arroyo, is asking the Nerja market traders to give up their protests, now in their 24th week, and engage in dialogue with the local political groups.
The mayor has offered to mediate in the dispute as 60% of the traders are from Vélez-Málaga. According to the latest reports, the owners of the Los Huertos de Carabeo plot have expressed a willingness to allow the land to be used for the market, but with the proviso that ‘all parties concerned’ must agree on the matter.
