The water company Aqualia has started replacing the old water pipes in the section between calle Batería and calle Plazamar Centro in Torre del Mar.
The works cover a 240 metre stretch of road and are expected to be completed in about one month. The cost of this project has been budgeted at €75,000 and falls under the heading renovation and repair.
New EU regulations regarding pipes carrying drinking water come into effect in 2012 and the Council has asked Aqualia to begin seeking funding to replace all the old piping to meet the new standards.
These works will involve replacing piping along 23 roads, 12 in Vélez-Málaga, 9 in Torre del Mar and 2 in Caleta de Vélez and the cost is estimated at €3,558,601.
