21 bodies recovered after Lanzarote boat tragedy

A total of twenty-one bodies have now been recovered off the island of Lanzarote following the capsizing on Sunday of a small boat carrying illegal immigrants. A further three people are unaccounted for.

The boat capsized about twenty metres from shore near the town of Teguise. There were only six survivors, rescued through the heroic efforts of two local residents, Cristian Hunt and Johny Camarasa, who dived into the water and dragged them ashore.

Of the 21 who lost their lives, 15 were minors and one was a pregnant woman.
