Mayor of Casares announces resignation

The Mayor of Casares, Juan Sánchez, has announced that he will be resigning from his position as head of the Council, although he intends to remain a Councillor.

Juan Sánchez has held the office of Mayor for 25 years and at the last municipal elections achieved an absolute majority. He entered government at the time of the first democratic elections and the only period during which he did not hold the position of Mayor was during the GIL administration from 1995 to 2000.

Sánchez has given the reason for his resignation, which is expected to take effect during April, is his desire to devote more time to his duties as president of the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental (Association of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol).

His place will be taken by the First Deputy Mayor, Antonia Morera.
