Largest German community in Spain

The population of Torrox continues to expand with most of the latest arrivals being foreigners. The town now has a resident population of 17,746 according to the latest figures, of which 40% are foreign.

Of the 7,046 registered foreign residents, 2,677 (37.9%) are German nationals and Torrox now boasts the largest colony of Germans in Spain.

While some municipalities such as Nerja have witnessed a slight decrease in registered population during the current economic crisis, Torrox continues on an upward trend. Much of this is due to the fact that Germans have been far less affected by the economic situation than the British and continue to set up a second or holiday home on the Costa del Sol.
