Two former police chiefs get prison terms

The Málaga Provincial Court has sentenced two former UDYCO police officers to eighteen months in prison for revealing secrets and failing to report crimes.

The former head of UDYCO-Costa del Sol, Valentín Bahut, and former chief of the Organised Crime Unit (how fitting!), Alfredo Marijuán, were also disqualified from holding public office for nine years and have been fined. A third defendant, also a police officer, was acquitted of the charges.

The charges related to the relationship between the defendants and an Italian man who came into possession of information from the police computer database and was allowed to travel freely between Spain and Morocco despite being the subject of a European arrest warrant.
