Russia to begin lifting pork ban shortly

Russia will soon begin to lift the total ban on imports of Spanish pigs and pork products prepared after May 1st 2009. This follows a meeting between Spanish and Russian officials.

Provinces in Spain can begin exporting pork products as and when they can certify that there is no threat of transmission of the virus AH1N1. Products prepared before May 1st are unaffected and can continue to be exported as normal and without restriction.

Around 3% of Spanish pork and pork products, 115,000 tons, is exported to Russia every year.
