In comes the sand again

The Department of Coasts is preparing to repair a number of beaches in preparation for the summer season, once again opting to bring in lorry loads of sand rather than find a permanent problem to beach erosion.

Chilches, Mezquitilla, Valle-Niza and Caleta de Vélez beaches will be the recipients of 40,000 cubic metres of sand to replace that lost during storms earlier this year. It is a continuation of the work begun before Easter but postponed because of the holiday period.

Vélez-Málaga Council is also requesting the installation of seven additional points of access on the beach at Torre del Mar for those with disabilities. The aim is that people with disablities would be able to park on the paseo to allow easier access to the beach.

The Council is also working on a special area for the disabled at Levante beach. This would include a special parking area, showers, kiosk, shade and easy access to the bathing area.
