Incommunicado

The town of Polícar, in Granada province, has been cut off from the outside world since last weekend after thieves stole a one kilometre section of telephone cable.

The Mayor of Polícar, Marcos Navarro, said that the population of the town has many elderly people who are dependent on telephones or computers for everything, from making medical appointments to requesting assistance, and they were feeling rather isolated and, in some cases, unprotected.
