Nerja golf course

The provincial delegate from the Ministry of Public works, Dolores Fernández, has been in Nerja and delivered quite scathing criticism on the handling of such issues as the proposed golf course.

Dolores Fernández, along with the provincial delegate for Education, Antonio Escámez, was in Nerja to discuss with the Opposition PSOE leader, Ángel Ramírez, the upcoming European elections.

During the course of proceedings, she stated that it was almost certain that Nerja could have the golf course it so desperately seems to want if only the Mayor would be less confrontational in such matters, engage in dialogue and seek alternatives when things don’t go according to plan.

The planned golf course has been stalled since 2005 after it was found to infringe upon protected park lands and the company contracted to construct the course, Medgroup, is still trying to retrieve the €15 million it paid to the Council.

Dolores Fernández said that it seemed as though the attiutude is always, ‘well, if we can’t build it there, we won’t build it at all’, and what invariably follows is confrontation and litigation rather than discussion to find an alternative solution.

Of course, there is an upcoming election and there is bound to be the odd bit of party political banter on a wide variety of subjects. However, it might not be a million miles from the truth.
