La Liga final day round-up

football1Ah well, the Blue and Whites end up in eighth place in La Liga after losing 3-0 to Espanyol, Tamudo doing the damage with a hat-trick.

Champions, and treble winners, Barcelona were held to a draw by Deportivo who finish the season in seventh place. Real Madrid were beaten again, this time going down 2-1 to Osasuna. Good finish from Osasuna, beating both the top clubs in the last couple of weeks.

Sevilla claim the third Champions League spot after beating already relegated Numancia 0-2 and Atlético Madrid finish third after a 3-0 victory against Almería.

European League (formerly UEFA Cup) places for Villarreal and Valencia. Villarreal overcame Mallorca 2-3 while Valencia had an easier time of things, beating Athletic Bilbao 2-0.

Betis drew 1-1 with Valladolid and join Numancia and Recreativo in Division Two next season. Still several games to go in Division Two so we don’t know their replacements yet, although Xerez look likely to be one of them.
