The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has declared once again his intention not to stand for Mayor at the next local elections in 2011. He made a similar statement prior to the elections in 2007.
José Alberto Armijo is in his fourth term as head of the municipal government, the last two times with an absolute majority. He is also president of the local Partido Popular, but believes that the two posts should be separate. The next Party Congress is in the summer and at that time a new president will be elected to office.
