Drugs network dismantled

Guardia Civil officers in Barcelona have arrested thirteen people involved in the smuggling of drugs through Barcelona’s airport. Seven of the detainees are airport workers.

The network was uncovered after the gang tried to ‘buy’ one of the airport Customs officers, offering him €10,000 for every kilo of cocaine he helped to get through.

The cocaine always arrived from the Americas, most notably Colombia, and was generally hidden in the toilets at El Prat. Those members of the gang working at the airport would then collect the packages.

The detainees are six Colombians, four Spanish, one Mexican, one Chilean and one Peruvian. During the arrests, police seized 7 kilos of cocaine, €12,000 in cash, a pistol and €85,000 in jewellery. Six of the detainees are being held in custody.
