Virgen del Carmen programme of events

The full schedule for the Virgen del Carmen celebrations has now been finalised, with events taking place on the 14th, 15th and 16th of July.

The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday July 14th: At 19:00 there will be a presentation of the newly restored Virgen, a floral tribute and later, a Mass at the El Salvador church in honour of fishermen from the Hermandad de Pescadores who have lost their lives.

Wednesday July 15th: Celebrations in the Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos from 22:00 onwards, with free food and drink and entertainment.

Thursday 16th July: Mass at 19:00 in the El Salvador church accompanied by the Peña Nerjeña choir. Ouside the church there will be a presentation followed by performances by the Agrupación Folclórica Municipal de Coros y Danzas and the Peña Nerjeña choir in honour of the Virgen del Carmen’

After these celebrations, the procession begins, following the route: Calle Carmen, calle Cabana, calle El Barrio, avenida Castilla Pérez and avenida Mediterráneo to end up on Torrecilla beach. The statue will then be loaded onto a boat and will head to calahonda beach.

Upon arrival at Calahonda beach, there will be a big firework display followed by festivities on the Balcón de Europa, the entertainment being provided by the group ‘Coser y Cantar’.

Plan B: In the event that sea conditions prevent the transportation of the statue of the Virgen del Carmen, the procession route will be: Calle Carmen, calle Granada, calle Ánimas, calle Pintada, calle Puerta del Mar and down to Calahonda beach.
