A man has been arrested in Málaga as the alleged perpetrator of a brutal attack on his girlfriend.
The incident took place at around 08:15 on Sunday morning. Several neighbours of the couple rang the police in the belief that something was wrong and that some sort of abuse was being carried out.
When the police arrived on the scene they could hear the woman, a 25 year old Spaniard, crying. The police officers identified themselves, at which time all went quiet in the apartment and, fearing the worst, the officers forced the door.
Inside, the police found that the house was in a mess. The woman had bruises to her neck where her partner, a 27 year old French national, had allegedly been trying to strangle her. The man had cuts and bruises, consistent with the woman having tried to defend herself against the attack.
After an initial investigation and questioning, the man was detained. Upon being arrested he struggled with the police and managed to land several blows.
The woman was taken to the Hospital Civil in Málaga where her injuries were treated. However, after initially agreeing to press charges against her partner, the woman changed her mind, a not uncommon occurrence in such cases. Despite this, the police decided to act on their own and charged the man with ‘abuse within the family’.
