Fire in Madrid causes two urbanisations to be evacuated

A fire in Collado Mediano, Madrid, has been elevated to ‘level 2’ and two urbanisations in the area, Parque Collado and Reojo del Roble have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The fire started in Cerro del Castillo, the northernmost district of the municipality. The cause of the blaze is not yet known but an investigation is underway. The extent of the damage is also not known at this stage as the firefighters continue to battle the blaze.

Troops from the Ministry of Interior have joined more than 200 firefighters at the scene where winds of up to 25 kph are hampering their efforts.
