Twenty forest fires in Spain

There are currently twenty fires raging in Spain with strong winds and high temperatures responsible for their continuing spread.

The fire in the Els Ports Natural Park, which claimed the lives of four firemen earlier this week, has revived and is once again spreading, this time through an area of dense undergrowth.

In Fines, Almería, fifty people have had to be evacuated from their homes following a fire on agricultural land. In La Carolina, Jaén, fire forced the closure for a few hours of the A-301 between La Carolina and Vilches near the village of La Isabela.

Three fires in Teruel have resulted in almost 1,000 people being evacuated from their homes and 4,500 hectares of land have so far been destroyed.

Fires in Guadalajara and Soria forced the temporary closure of several sections of the AVE high-speed line between Madrid and Barcelona, affecting some 3,600 passengers.

There are ‘out of control’ fires in the provinces Cuenca, Navarra, Álava, Ciudad Real, Alicante and Palencia.
