Not in the belfry…

Quite used to pigeons on the balcony, swifts and martins swooping up into the narrow gap at the top of shutters/blinds, another surprise the other day.

At night, once the swifts and martins have finished their sweep of the street, ridding us of bugs, it’s the turn of the bats. They are very interesting to watch. This time, though, I actually found out where they live, and I was stunned.

On the wall of the apartment block on the opposite side of the street, there is a narrow slit running almost from top to bottom, can’t be more than about one centimetre wide. At high speed, these particular bats disappeared straight into the crack, no problem at all. Live and learn….again!
